Sarrians is a charming little village located midway between Orange and Carpentras in the Vaucluse department.

Due to its great location in a very scenic area, Sarrians is an ideal holiday destination. From Sarrians there are great opportunities for excursions and other outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, climbing, rafting and much more.

Sarrians is not far from the legendary Mont Ventoux, the impressive gorges, the Gorges de la Nesque and the two large mountain massifs Plateau de Vaucluse and Dentelles de Montmirail. Incidentally, the famous wine region of Châteauneuf-du-Pape is only 17 kilometres west of Sarrians.

Sarrians is a typical Provençal medieval village with narrow, winding streets, old stone houses and small, cosy squares.

There are still remains of the old city walls. In some places the houses are built against the walls, in others directly on top of their foundations. In Sarrians you'll also find a church from the year 1000 and an 18th century château, the finest or at least one of the finest in the region.

Every year on the first weekend in September, the department's many different folklore groups gather in Sarrians. This is a unique opportunity to experience the traditional costumes, headdresses, dances and music of the Vaucluse.

BMX tournament the last week of July.

There are good opportunities for outdoor activities in the Vaucluse area, see for example the following websites: http://www.provenceguide.com/gbcdt/index.asp; http://www.hautvaucluse.com/pdf/guidea.pdf (Guide to activities and attractions in the Haut Vaucluse area).

Cycling: Challenges for everyone, from elite athletes to families with children. There are several great rides to other towns in the area, a wealth of less demanding mountain routes and the tough Mont Ventoux.

Golf - There are a wealth of golf courses in the area, 4 in the department of Vaucluse and several in the neighbouring southern department of Bouhes du Rhône. The French Golf Union has a website where most courses are presented. Unfortunately, the website is in French. Go to Guide de golfs and search here under the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur region: http://www.ffgolf.org/.
