"Well, what does Russell Crowe have to do with my holiday?"
Are you asking the same questions?
See here how he had an influence on my summer holiday.
I love movies.
Especially if they have a humorous touch.
Therefore, I enjoyed "A good year" starring Russell Crowe in the lead role.
In the movie, Russell Crowe plays the tough financier Max Skinner, who comes to Provenceto sell the vineyard he just inherited from his late Uncle Henri. Max's meeting with a charming and not least seductive Provence is a humorous and contrasting narrative.
But what does this have to do with planning a holiday?
Inspiration for a holiday can come from many places.
I get my inspiration from movies.
Movies introduce me to interesting areas, charming villages and fantastic nature.
The movie "A good year" was shot in Vaucluse in Provence (to be exact it is the area East of Avignon and North of Aix-en-Provence). Vaucluse is a lovely mix of beautiful cities and villages, lavender fields and wooded mountains.
In the summer of 2013 I followed in Russell Crowe's footsteps, and I can only recommend that you do the same. Here is what I saw:
Vineyard Château la Canorgue: This is the vineyard that Russell Crowe in the movie inherits after his uncle. It is partially open for the public, and the vine cellar is a 'must-see'.
Gordes: The city is an essential place in the film and definitely worth a visit. It has a unique setting on top of a cliff and it is nominated one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Cistercian monastery Abbaye de Sénanque: when in Gordes you should definitely stop by this monastery, which is surrounded by lavendar fields.
Roussillon: Is one of the 'must-sees' with its ocher-colored houses.
L'Isle sur la Sorgue: A very charming medieval village with many channels and well known for its antique markets.
I could continue - indefinitely!
I am a big fan of Vaucluse.
To sum up Vaucluse offers you the true feeling of Provence with its fantastic charm, its interesting villages and its varying landscapes - and it is all reachable within short distances.

...you might think!
Have you (surprisingly) not been mesmerized by Russell Crowe and Provence?
There are plenty of movies that present Tuscany's pearl to you!
The movie "Under the Tuscan Sun" tells the story of a depressed female who after a divorce travels to Tuscany to find a deeper meaning with her life. More exactly the movie is set in the little charming village of Cortona in Eastern Tuscany.
In the movie, the main character, Frances Mayes, purchases a villa just outside Cortona. The repair of the villa and Cortona are the focal points in a movie that brings you on an exciting journey in Tuscany - a journey that among other things brings you to a wedding in Montepulciano.
Southern and Eastern Tuscany are unique areas with beautiful landscapes, historic villages and plenty for you to experience during your holiday.
