Provence Côte d'Azur
Provence is a region situated in the sunny south-eastern corner of France. The real Provence stretches from the perfume-city of Grasse to the east all the way to the Rhône valley to the west, and from the high Alps to the north, to the Mediterranean to the south. Even though it is not geographically correct, the French Riviera is today also considered a part of Provence. The region contains the following departments: Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse, Var, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence as well as the Alpes-Maritimes. Furthermore, we have decided to include the departments of Drôme and Ardèche in the region of Provence-Côte d’Azur, as many of our holiday homes are situated near the natural border of Provence-Côte d´Azur. Built in the late 1400's, the Fattoria Poggio Capponi Farm dominates a magnificent landscape covered with vineyards, olive trees, wheat and cypresses. This 500-hectare estate is specialised in very fine wines and extra virgin olive oil production. Fattoria Poggio Capponi produces 6 types of wine (220,000 bottles a year), in addition to extra virgin olive oil, wheat and sunflowers.
Located almost in the centre of Tuscany, Fattoria Poggio Capponi stands proudly on a hill in Montespertoli set among woods, vineyards, olive groves and wheat fields. The Fattoria is located at the centre of an area rich in historical attractions for tourists. Only 20 kilometres from Florence and in a favourable position, Poggio Capponi is a short drive from Siena, Monteriggioni, Volterra, San Gimignano, Pisa and Versilia all famous for their cultural and historic importance.
Only a few other places can boast all the beauty of the typical Tuscan landscape, and this is why Poggio Capponi is also an excellent holiday resort. The holiday farm offers accommodation in many flats obtained in old refurbished dwellings, some of which are dating back to the 16th century. The Taviani brothers were so inspired by the beauty of the surrounding countryside that they decided to use it as the setting of their movie "La notte di San Lorenzo " (St. Lawrence's Night). Visitors will find a small museum of vintage cars on the premises. The farm organises wine tasting and tours to have visitors discover its numerous activities. Montespertoli, at the centre of a district intensely involved with wine growing, holds an important trade fair of Chianti wines every spring.
Housed in old farmhouses and barns, the apartments have been fully restored and very carefully furnished by the owners, in total respect of the villa's 16th century style. Two apartments are within the main farm villa, four others are in a nearby hamlet on the same estate and another eight apartments in a hamlet called Borghetto, 600 meters from the farm. All the apartments have lovely old terracotta floors and original beamed ceilings, and furniture is mostly traditional Tuscan and family antiques. Table, chairs and umbrella are outside for eating, sunbathing and enjoying the wonderful views. The apartments are completely independent, with kitchen, garden and parking place.
Hidden below the terrace garden at the main villa and enjoying panoramic views over forests and castles, the swimming pool is surrounded by beautiful olive trees that complete the picture of this marvellous landscape. The owners live in the farmhouse, where Gioconda, their daughter, welcomes all new guests. The charming and helpful owner provides dinner once a week outside by the pool for a very reasonable charge, and sometimes arranges wine and oil tasting as well as tours of fascinating and important vineyards and museums in the area.
On location there is an "Internet Point", a room where there is free wireless internet connection. In Borghetto, 600 mt. from the farm, there is a playground.
La Colombaia - Apartment of 70 m2 for 4 persons
Situated at the small village Borghetto at 600 m from the main farmhouse. The village used to house the estate workers. There are now about 10 permanent residents, 8 holiday apartments, a pizzeria and a restaurant.
