Fontaine-de-Vaucluse

The town’s greatest sight is the springing source of the Sorgue-river, amongst nature’s greatest wonders in Provence.

Above the village, at the foot of a 230 metres high cliff the water breaks through as a full river. It is the most powerful spring in France and the fifth most powerful in the world. Every year 630 million cubic metres of water stream out. In the summertime, the quantity of water is fairly sparse due to the drought, but in spring and autumn the water is fantastic - particularly in springtime - 90 cubic metres per second stream out into the bed of the Sorgue-river. – An outstanding natural phenomenon.

Next to the river there is an old paper mill which is still being used and which is producing its paper as it did in the olden times.
