Montbrun-les-Bains is nominated one of the prettiest villages in France and it is most interesting with its many cultural and historic remains.
A walk through the old village is like a travel back in time.
At the top of the village you will find the remains of the old Château Dupuy-Montbrun from the 16th century.
La Porte de l’Horloge at
Place du Beffroi marks the entrance to the old medieval quarter. It is an old turret with embrasure and parapet from the 14th century. At the time, it was part of the fortifications, but today the only remains are the turret and a part of the wall. At the foot of the turret there is a beautiful, round fountain. In the village there are several interesting ruins, including a couple of round towers with their embrasures and a church from the 12th century, built into the old town wall.
Montbrun-les-Bains is, as the name indicates, also a thermal place.
The old thermal baths, which were made by
le Comte d’Aulan at the end of the 19th century, are situated at the foot of the old quarter. Montbrun-les-Bains is well-known for its very sulphuric water, supposedly healthy for people with rheumatism, for respiration and skin.
